The City of Danville is nearing completion of the Splash Pad at the Lexington Avenue Park on the grounds of the Coldiron-Watkins Water Treatment Plant. Danville Public Works and Utilities employees constructed the grade and foundation and are performing final tasks for the grand opening scheduled for 4pm Thursday August 22. The public is invited for a ribbon cutting and a good August Summer soaking afterwards!
After the grade and foundations were completed, Electrical contractor Brian Jones and Plumbing contractor Mark Taylor moved in to install the electrical controls and complicated plumbing required for the Waterplay® Solutions Corporation fixtures mounted on the Splash Pad.
Jave Contracting completed the Splash Pad surface by pouring red concrete to mark where the water sprays. Public Works installed the fixtures and are troubleshooting minor issues in the next few days.
The unofficial first Splash Pad user was a worker who inadvertently opened a flange before the water pressure was turned off, looking like a sailor controlling leaks in a WWII submarine movie! A few young visitors got to take part in early testing…
Thirty concrete footers under the red concrete Splash Pad support 26 Waterplay® fixtures shooting water in numerous different ways to entice children to run through or figure out how some move to allow them to control where the jets spray.
